Interpreted from a photograph taken by the artist, Moechella highlights a significant moment in D.C. history where natives of the revered Chocolate City gathered together on May 7, 2019 with gogo bands, 4-wheelers, big sis, lil bro, cuz, and moe, to take a stand against an effort trying to silence them and erase their (our) culture. Moe is a term used by many citizens of the city, mostly of color, to refer to a person, place, or thing. It can also be used simply as an expression. Hinting at the festival name Coachella, Moechella was born.
